Winter Uniform Collection

As part of a project for Environmental Science, students are asking the senior class to donate their winter uniforms so that they can be recycled and distributed to families in need. SBA items will be raffled off to any senior who donates their uniform! Collection bins are located in the cafeteria, so seniors can drop off their uniforms through this week. The Environmental Science class greatly appreciates all the support!

Message from the Main Office regarding transportation:

If your daughter will be taking a township bus to school, it is important that you contact your school district over the summer to find out your time and bus stop location. Saint Basil Academy sends the townships a list of the girls attending, but it is the parents’ responsibility to find out the bus stop information.

Our first week of school begins on August 28th, but we do not have full days. We would ask that you make provisions for your daughter’s transportation to and from school that week.
Our first full week of school begins on September 4th and that is when bussing begins.

During the school year announcements will be made when we have an early dismissal and which townships will provide early bus pick-up. If they only provide a few days of early pick-ups, the girls will have to get a ride home. All of these announcements will be made during homeroom and will be announced several times during the week prior to the early dismissal date.

Thank you.
Linda Powers

College Counseling

Senior students should be checking the Bulletin Board outside of the College Counseling Office which will have all college acceptance and merit award information. If a student has not brought in her letters of acceptance or merit, please have her do so ASAP. This information will eventually be printed in the Graduation Booklet, so it is imperative the information be as accurate as possible. The College Counseling Office can only be responsible for information they have received. Senior students should also select their attending college and/or university on their respective Naviance accounts.

Junior students have all been scheduled for their college appointments with Mrs. Smith. Email notifications have been sent to their email accounts on Naviance. They have all been notified and if they need to reschedule, please have them stop in the office to do so. All juniors have been reminded of these appointments in their Advisory periods, but a little "nudging" at home would be greatly appreciated! Students who have had their meetings have all received a list of schools to begin evaluating online. The students are not required in any way to apply to one or all of the schools on their list, but mainly to use as a place to start researching. If they decide to, that is fine, but it is more important for them to begin their research and determine what schools make a good academic fit for them. Once they have determined academic fit, then it would be good for them to visit to determine the social fit.

Good Luck with the process and please feel free to contact me with any questions and/or concerns. Please note there is much information on our website under Campus Life, then College Services on the College Admission Process.

Letter from Mrs. Maureen Walsh – Director of Admissions

Over 30 years ago I walked through the doors of SBA as a shy, nervous freshman. The same nervous freshman that has walked through these same doors for generations. Four years later I was a graduating senior. I was confident, poised, and prepared for any challenge that may lie ahead. I can honestly say that my student years at SBA were one of the most enjoyable times in my life. When the opportunity arose to give back to the school I love, I didn’t hesitate.

I have been Director of Admissions at SBA for almost 20 years and it is with a heavy heart that I have resigned that position. I have enjoyed meeting every single family, and every single girl that has come into my life. You all hold a special place in my heart and I will take you with me as I move on to the next chapter of my life. The chapter where I am baby sitter, nurse, teacher, cook…grandmother.

My husband and I have sold our home here and we will be moving to the Jersey Shore where we will be making many new memories with our three daughters and their families. I am looking forward to the next phase of my life but SBA will always hold a special place in my heart. In closing I would just like to say thank you. Thank you for all your support over the years, thank you for all the memories, and thank you for touching my heart. I will miss you all.

Mrs. Maureen McKeown Walsh ‘79
