May 21, 2018 – Mrs. Connie D’Angelo, Principal, and members of the Saint Basil Academy Community are proud to announce a $1 million Leadership Gift from Mrs. Helena (Olijnyk) Mazur ’61. This transformational gift, the largest gift in the history of Saint Basil Academy, will promote new educational programs, continue facility improvements, and establish the new LEARNING COMMONS AREA. This new space (coming August, 2018) will provide an environment for collaboration and construction of knowledge for 21st century learning.

Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Mazur were honored at Saint Basil Academy on Friday, May 11. They were welcomed and thanked by Mrs. D’Angelo along with members of the Sisters of Saint Basil the Great, the Board of Advisors, parents, alumnae, students and local dignitaries. “Mr. and Mrs. Mazur, your actions and commitment to the Academy will offer our girls the opportunity to think big, to aspire to personal goals, and to continue the bond of our SBA sisterhood,” Mrs. D’Angelo said. “There has been so much change in education in the past 20 years, with a great need for having to respond to teaching and technological advances, and yet, the foundation of sisterhood, academic excellence and challenge of young women to reach their greatest potential remain the same today in 2018. Your gift, the largest gift every given to SBA, will enable the Academy to forge ahead in meeting those changes.”

Mr. and Mrs. Mazur believe there is a place in our society for Catholic education.
Grace Clement, Senior, expressed gratitude to Mrs. Mazur by saying “It is evident the education, values and grace you learned at Saint Basil Academy will carry us well through the next chapter of our lives.” This gift will ensure that the foundation in Catholic education at Saint Basil Academy comprised of faith in God, compassion for others and a love of learning, will continue for current and future students.

The next school year brings new teachers, and new courses that empower young woman to not only reach their potential, but to value the responsibility of making this world a better place. Saint Basil Academy hopes that others see the immense value that we offer young women and that this generous gift propels others to help us continue excelling in what we do best.
