Message from the Principal

Dear Saint Basil Family,

In October 2015, I attended my first Pennsylvania Women’s Conference in Philadelphia. What a wondrous experience to be surrounded by so many successful women who came together to share their wisdom on feminine leadership. Professional soccer player Carli Lloyd, chef, author and media personality star Rachael Ray, Liberian peace activist Leymah, actress and entrepreneur Jessica Alba, and writer and women’s activist Gloria Steinem discussed topics such as the science and art of negotiating, and the courage to think innovatively and creatively. Collectively, these women identified how change stems from an awareness of how the times we live in necessitate new approaches and new solutions to old challenges. They believe that left to women, the world would thrive. On October 12, 2018, I attended the PA Women’s Conference again, accompanied by 11 wonderfully talented Saint Basil Academy seniors who are just beginning to make a mark on their community.

In our efforts to mesh the Basilian tradition of spirited, young leaders with the demands of a global and technical society, this year SBA began offering courses that would engage young leaders in real-world scenarios. The Women Leadership Seminar, Applied Math in Physics, and Personal Finance courses offer students the opportunity to bring real-world perspectives to their classwork. Through this new approach, SBA is empowering its young women to be the spark of the 21st century, honing their creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving and collaboration skills, and in doing so, ensuring that its students “leave things better than they found them.” We have connected with alumnae who are most eager to create networking and job shadowing experiences for our students because as leaders themselves, they understand the necessity for young women to expand their experience and knowledge beyond the classroom.

Join us as we celebrate the accomplishments of these Basil women, remembering that as poet Marquesha Babers’ inspired us in her poem “That Girl,” that these women, through the God-given power within themselves, are strong enough to carry the world on their backs and fierce enough to be great. Your continued support of the Basil community ensures that we remain steadfast in inspiring young women to be the leaders of tomorrow!
With a grateful heart,

Connie D’Angelo

We believe in developing leadership potential and energizing school spirit through curricular and co-curricular activities with the mutual support of the administration, faculty, staff, students, parents, and alumnae.
