Visual and Performing Arts

Overview

Fine Arts

The art curriculum focuses on exploring and understanding the elements and principles of art, a variety of media, criticism, and aesthetics. Art from the Greek, Roman, Byzantine, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, Romantic, Impressionist, and Modern periods is explored.

Music

The music curriculum offers two required music courses and elective courses in piano, guitar, band, string and handbell ensembles, concert choir, madrigal singers, and music theory. All students learn harmony, rhythm, meter, and tempo, and examine a variety of music and composers.

Music Academy

The Music Academy is an intensive major that will give the student who wishes to excel either in vocal, instrumental, or piano studies the instruction and practicum needed to present oneself as a true musician. While all SBA students are invited to participate in our traditional performing groups, the Music Academy will give participants additional opportunities to practice their musical skills, as well as steep themselves in studies of music theory and related subjects, music history, technology, and applied classes, including chamber ensembles and master classes.

Students completing the Music Academy will be awarded special certification in addition to the Saint Basil Academy diploma. The program will prepare them to continue further studies in university and conservatory programs. The SBA Music Academy is pleased to welcome eight young ladies into the inaugural class.
