Juniors and Seniors (Elective – fulfills English requirement) 1.0 Credit

The primary objective of this college-level course is to introduce students to a range of literature including novels, short stories, poetry, and dramatic fiction. AP Literature and Composition is a reading-intensive course that engages students in becoming skilled readers of prose, and developing close-text reading and analytical writing skills. As in a college course, the purpose of AP Literature & Composition is to enable students to read complex texts with understanding and to write prose with sufficient richness and complexity to communicate effectively with mature readers. Students are required to take the AP Exam in the spring.

Prerequisite: A- average in AP Language and Composition or an A in Honors Introduction to Rhetoric and Analysis; PSAT Verbal score in the top 25% of class; and results of English Performance Evaluation. Students will also complete a reading comprehension and analysis test.
