AP United States History is a college-level survey course that will explore American history in depth from its Native American origins to the present. The course focuses on the development of historical thinking skills and an understanding of content organized around seven major themes (such as identity, America in the world, etc.). Emphasis is placed on the interpretation of original documents, historiography, critical thinking and reading skills, and essay writing. AP United States History requires a student’s willingness to devote considerable time to homework and independent study.

Prerequisite: Students must have an overall GPA of 3.3, an A- in their previous social studies course, and permission of the Social Studies Department. *Students are required to take the AP examination for the course.
