This course introduces students to the Latin language and Roman culture. The course includes a heavy focus on the fundamentals of Latin grammar, including cases and declensions, as well as the building of a basic Latin vocabulary. Emphasis is placed on Latin-based English language derivatives. Basics of Roman culture are discussed through the reading of Virgil’s Aeneid, Ovid’s Metamorphoses, as well as other select works. All aspects of Roman history from 753 B.C. to 476 A.D. are explored.
