Mrs. Joanne Bates

Bates

I became the String Ensemble director at SBA in the Fall of 2006. I am a 1977 cum laude graduate of The Philadelphia High School for Girls and received my Bachelor of Music degree in 1982 from The Curtis Institute of Music.

I am currently a member of the Princeton Symphony and the Riverside Symphonia. I also perform regularly with the Amadeus Ensemble and the Fairmount Chamber Ensemble, as well as the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia. I have performed as a substitute player with The Philadelphia Orchestra at both the Academy of Music in Philadelphia and Carnegie Hall in New York. I have worked with Opera Philadelphia, the Delaware Opera and Boheme Opera Company, as well as the Reading Symphony, Delaware Symphony and the Northeastern Philharmonic.

In addition to St. Basil Academy, I serve on the faculties of Germantown Academy, Chestnut Hill College and Temple University’s Center for Gifted Young Musicians. I was an adjunct professor of double bass performance at Kutztown University for 7 years, and was a guest lecturer in double bass performance and string pedagogy at Mansfield University.
