Mr. Alex Schmauk

I am the band director at St. Basil Academy. I also direct the band at St. Joseph the Protector School in Glenside, PA. I recently accepted a position as the trumpet teacher at Cairn University in Langhorne PA. In addition to these schools, I am also the founder and conductor of the Jenkintown Community Band, a year round ensemble for advanced high school students and adults.

Over the last two years, I have conducted the Archdiocesan Honor Band, a concert band comprised of the top Junior High instrumentalists in the Philadelphia Archdiocese. As a teacher in the Jenkintown and Glenside area, I am  very proud to have students who have gone on to become performers and music educators.

During my studies as a trumpet player, I attended the Tanglewood Music Center in Lenox, MA, and the National Repertory Orchestra in Breckenridge, CO as a part of their fellowship programs. While at Tanglewood, I worked with such notable conductors as Andre Previn, James Conlin, Seji Ozowa, and Robert Spano.

I am currently the Assistant Principal Trumpet with the New Jersey Capitol Philharmonic and Principal Trumpet with the Boheme Opera Co. in NJ. I have also performed with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Delaware Symphony Orchestra, Helena Symphony Orchestra, Lancaster Symphony and the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia. I have also enjoyed working with popular performers such as Josh Groban, Anne Murray, Maureen McGovern and Kansas.

I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore, MD, and a Master’s Degree in Trumpet Performance from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, MA.
